Which hops to buy?

With the prices looking so good on Hopdirect site I am interested in ordering a couple of varieties. Which 3-4 would be good for all around brewing?

I was thinking Cascade (for Haus Pale Ale that I love), Hallertau (for Cream Ales that I always have on tap), EKG for Brown Ales and Stouts.

Any other suggestions?

Can you order 1/2 lb increments from them? If so then I would increase the number of varities I would get.

A couple of pounds would last me a couple of yrs, and even if they go bad, I would still be saving money over buying from the homebrew supply places.

I think you can only order by the pound from Hopsdirect.

I like your first 3 choices. Do they have any Tettang?? Once of my favorite hops. You could also try Mt Hood which I think is versatile.

Do what I did - Throw a bunch of beer recipies into your favorite brewing software, add to shopping list, and see what hops are called for. I have the next 80 gallons planned out - 7 lbs of hops ordered (crystal, cascade, centennial, fuggle, golding, tett and willamette) and will have far more than 1/2 my order left when I have those brewed.

Whatever ya do, order soon. With prices like they are I'd imagine HD will be swamped with orders today (first day back from long weekend for many).

Buy some sort of big bittering hop. Galena or magnum or one of those guys.

Pick up a pound of willamette. Its a great hop, and at $6 a lb, you really can't go wrong. Amarillo is another good one that they have cheap (like $10, IIRC).

Buy yourself a cheap vacuum sealer if you don't already have one, and some mason jars.

I just ordered 1 lb each of Cascades, Centennial, Hallertau and Willamette. That should do just about what ever I normally brew.

It's not clear from their website, but these hops are from last year's harvest right? They're discounting them to make room for this year's harvest which just started?
