New to the forums here, posting atleast, been learning from you guys for awhile now, been brewing for about 6 months. Started with Mr. Beer (I know, but it got me started in this hobby... addiction), now doing All grain. Getting ready to start kegging and have two freezers. Looking for opinions on which one to use for keezer. First is an old Hotpoint stand up freezer that could hold 4 kegs and 2nd is a Haier chest that could hold 4 kegs if I make a collar. No problems with making a collar, but I think the older freezer may look cooler. Either way is going to be some work, collar vs. bending freon line and removing a shelf. Just wondering what everyone here thinks.

Chest into a keezer and the stand up into a fermentor :mug:

Only thing I disliked about my keezer were cleaning up messes. I sold it and got a standard refrigerator (23CF) that with some effort I could squeeze 6 kegs in it and still have the freezer above for hops and overflow household items. I have a pretty cool basement so that's where my fermenting will continue until I run across a money tree for a heated/cooled conical or two to leave in the garage

I just bought the black Kenmore 8.8 cubic foot freezer chest to turn it into a keezer. It easily holds four kegs and the CO2. So far, the lowest temp setting holds steady at 42 with the kegs inside.

Without a temp controller?

Well, I was going to Home Depot to get the stuff to make a collar and a stand for the chest freezer, but the boss said, and I quote, "There is no way I'm using that old dirty one for the food, you can use it for your beer." I love how it's always my beer, but I find myself brewing beers she likes at least half the time. Oh well, I guess my mind is made up for me (as it usually is). I'll post pictures as the build comes along. Thanks for all your input. BTW, if you need a temp controller for your keezer I found the cheapest Ranco ETCs are at:

They are 47.29 with free shipping.

Oh and Bones that other fridge you see in the picture is my lagering fridge, which I did consider turning into a kegerator for the same reasons you mentioned but it will only fit three kegs. While I only plan on tapping three at a time. I would like to have a fourth carbing and conditioning.
