Hi all,

Attempting to wash my first lager yeast. It is a 2308 wyeast munich lager. This picture is after 24 hours. I have another jug in the fridge which is the same. I have washed numerous ale yeasts quite easily. It is from a munich helles recipe i found on here. I know its dark, but i mistakenly added crystal 60 instead of crystal 10. It fermented down to 1.009

Thanks
Barney

its not a big problem if i cant wash it, i resurrected this one from a frozen vial, but now i would like to know where the yeast went to.

I am sure i would have noticed if 400 billion yeast snuck outta the carboy, and out the door. If not me, then the dog surly would have. He loves beer:cross:

It's got to be in the trub at the bottom, although it's not readily apparent. It's not floating at the top, and the middle looks pretty clear, and if there is nothing left for it to ferment, it would floc out and settle. Is there a chance that you discarded it earlier in the process? If not, it's got to be mixed in with the rest of the junk on the bottom.

You could test it. Decant the stuff on top, take a small portion of the stuff on bottom, make a small starter and see if it does anything... or just use some sugar and water to proof a small amount of it, just to test and see if there is any yeast there.

What i did was pour 2 liters of boiled/cooled water into the carboy, then poured the whole thing into 2 separate jugs

What i just did was swirl it up again, let it sit for 20 mins, then poured into a couple of 1 quart mason jars. Will see what happens
