Is it just me... or are there a serious lack of dark lager recipes out there? What do you folks think, is this due to a lack of interest in this type? or, are those few recipes just so damn awesome no one cares to make more?!

There seems to be lots of dark lager recipes out there. They just seem to be easier to find under the subcatagories of American dark, baltic porter, doppelbock, dunkel, Euro dark, schwarzbier & Vienna.

In about 6 weeks, I'll be brewing my first dark lager, an AHS Berghoff Dark clone.

I'm just waiting to pull my Triple Decocted Munich Dunkel out of the lagering fridge. It tasted really good last weekend. Two or three more weeks and I'll be posting the recipe, I think. Unless it tastes worse then than it did on Friday, here's hoping.

I have a Munich Dunkel recipe that is outstanding. It's been a big hit with many and won a few competitions. I'll try to post it when I get home.

I modified this recipe I found slightly. I brewed it as an ale and it was AWESOME. I tapped it at the beginging of the Broncos game on Sunday and it was gone by half time.

If your interested let me know and I'll post it.

4# Pilsner
3# Vienna
2.5# Munich
.25# Carafa II
.25# Melanoiden
.5# Carapils

.48oz Magnum (12.5) @ 60
.25oz Hersbrucker (2.4) @ 10
.5oz Hersbrucker (2.4) @ 0

2 packs saf-lager weihenstephan lager

That was the dunkel I made this year, it came out pretty good. It was a bit nuttier tasting than I wanted, I was looking for a richer malt character, next time I'll bump up the munich.

And yeah, lack of interest. No one cares about dunkels except shiner bock.

Hell I don't discriminate I love all dark lagers... it just seems that their's still not all that many recipes... I've got about 25 or so... which suuure its a fair number but that isn't a drop in the hat compared to some of the other variants... hell even scotch ales I must have close to 75-80 recipes...
