Can't seem to find oak chips. I've found Maple, Hickory, Apple wood, etc... at the local hardware shop in the grill isle. But no one has oak. Where do you people that have them get them?

Should I just pick a dead branch off an oak tree? Or will it matter much if I use a different wood? (I'm presoaking oak chips in bourbon for a stout).

Several of us use these, it's oak bourbon barrels...I got mine at Gander Mountain...I think 7 bucks a bag...worked great in my brown, after being soaked in more JD for 2 weeks.

Have you checked the online homebrew stores? A lot of them sell oak cubes, cut from used wine barrels.
