Hello all,

I am preparing a 1/4 acre hop yard and need a source for cedar posts. I am located in South Jersey and will need roughly 55-60 posts at 20-22' x 6-7" to accommodate my design.

Does anybody know where I can source these from? Delivery would be preferred but pickup could also be an option.

Thanks for any suggestions! :mug:

Lumber prices are fairly consistent, I would check with Lowes and Home Depot and compare delivery charges.

You can call this place. I know it was sold a few years back, but i used to go there and get all my cedar stuff there. No hurt calling.

55-60 posts? In a quarter acre? Seems like a wicked inefficient design, compared to how the "big kids" set up their fields...

Cheers!

I'm not in your area and also not building anywhere near the size of a garden as you but I did recently buy a 16' cedar 4x4. I tried menards and home depot around but both said a cedar 4x4 greater than 12' has to be special ordered in quantities of 20+. So I called around and all of the local lumberyards said they could have it special ordered with their weekly order. Pricing was about the same across the board. I didn't look into shipping so I'm guessing that will be the main deciding factor for you.

Thanks all for the input! I will check into all of the suggestions.

Day Tripper, 55-60 posts is a high number, but they won't go to waste so if I get a better price on more volume and delivery is the same I would rather have the extra posts. If the 1/4 acre grows well I do plan to expand up to 4 acres.

I will post back with my findings. I received one quote for $3.50 p/ft which is very high compared to numbers I have seen from others who have purchased elsewhere @ $1-2p/ft.

Open to all suggestions though, thanks again!
