After looking high and low, tearing apart the house, accusing SWMBO of going through my brew supplies, and calling to see if this was some forgotten april fools joke on the part of my brother... I gave up.

I figured it was lost to the black hole of my house. I popped open my primary to transfer to the secondary. There it was. My hydrometer was starring straight back up at me. I forgot to take it out of the wort, put the top on with the airlock and there it was.

SWMBO kicked me in the ass for being an ass.

Ever had an experience like this?

I have never done that but what I did do was to sanitize my thief and hydrometer in 1 shot and then went to shake out the excess k-meta and whipped the thief forgetting that the hydrometer was in there and shot it all the way across the basement right before I needed it. Now i always have at least 1 extra but have never broken 1 since.

I had one that disappeared after an... ahem... exceptionally late brew night that I to this day have no idea what happen to it.

I tried to shake the starsan off one once while holding onto the thin part. Did not work so well. Had one sitting on top of the kezzer while brewing and opend it up to grab a beer. That one did not fair well either. :(

One time I dropped a hydrometer in a carboy and never saw it again. It shattered on the botom & I had to filter glass particles out of my brew later on.

I've also purchased 3 glass Hydrometer tubes over the last year. I've only had one that lasted long enough for me to use it. The rest all got broken in strange and infuriating ways.

What? Lose a hydrometer or have the SWMBO kick my ass?

I lost one. Bought another. Found the original one. Broke the new one. All in one day.
Broke another one on Friday night. Need to go and buy another (always have one in reserve - clumsy **** that I am)

My irish stout didn't turn out that great. All my buddies came over to help drink it this weekend and every single one agreed its far from my best batch.
