Normally placed into the boil kettle before the target end of the boil for sanitization. Run only after you have turned off the energy source.
This is what I do too. Never had any bad batches yet because of it.The last two batches, I added the chiller at the end of the boil. I think the temps are high enough to where the bugs are killed off. Just wait a few minutes or three and you're good.
