So swmbo is looking for me to do a pumpkin beer next so I've started looking at a few recipes. I helped a friend brew one a few weeks ago and his recipe added pumpkin to the boil. I'm leaning towards Papazian's recipe in Homebrewers Companion. This calls for adding it to the mash itself. I was wondering what the difference between the two flavor wise would be. If it helps my wife loves Shipyards pumpkin so if one way would be closer to this flavor profile it would be ideal. Thank for any help

Add it to the mash, hands down. It makes a mess of your mash, so I like to mash a little thin, but it will break down the sugars in the pumpkin.
