Two weeks ago I got a 10 cu. ft. chest freezer from a co-worker. It was free because she said it needed freon. I'm no HVAC guy, but I am fairly handy and able to troubleshoot mechanical things. I believed her that it didn't work, but needing more freon was down the list of things I thought it actually was. Long story short, it really is broken and not user serviceable.
However, I am now using it as my lager fermentation chest. A couple of 1 liter bottles of ice rotated every day maintains a steady 50° F. Plus it will fit two 5 gallon fermenters.
Right now I got a Munich Helles chuggin away in there. Win!
