When did you really find out what RDWHAHB means??? I just brewed a Belgian double that I thought was going to taste like crap.. I live in Florida and when I was fermenting the temps were very high 70 – 73… then a cold front came in and the bottling temps were 59 – 65. So I cracked one open today and OMG it tasted great!

The OG was off and the FG was off too. I decided not to ask questions and just let it ride and that was the best thing I have done.

So for everyone that is new , please don’t worry what you are doing it will taste better than a Bells, Flying Dog or anything else that is in the cooler at the beer house because it’s yours!

Peace,

For me it was after I tossed two batches because I thought I had mold...later I learned it was krausen.

Little by little with every batch. My first one seemed like a nightmare. I brewed a batch today, and it was possibly the easiest going batch so far, first time I didn't have a boil over, and no fermcap. It seems now with every batch, everything is starting to fall into place. And it seems that more and more, I find myself saying "I wonder what would happen if.... what the hell, let's do it!" and trying something new without second guessing it.

Haha, yeah, I actually stopped brewing for about a year after the second one. After I picked it back up my wife commented that I seemed a lot more relaxed.

Lucky for me, i found out what it meant before i ever brewed my first batch.I went to a great LHBS and the first thing he did was give me a sixer of his home brew, and said "any time your worried about your first batch, have one of these and relax, then quoted the saying" I have lived by it since day one. That was Larrys Home brew Supply, in Kent, Washington, if you live near there, they are great people.

I'm not sure when it happened, but it eventually does.

Today I started with some frustrating technical difficulties (my thermo-couple was acting all crazy due to a crimped cord). Then while cooling, a hose popped off and dumped about 1/2g of wort on the garage floor before I noticed. I also was out of whirlfloc (and the LHBS is closed Sundays), out of hop sacks (and the bazooka screen was worthless), and ended up doing a total garage clean-up during the brew.

A year ago, that would have been a hell-brew day, and I've been brewing for almost ten years.. I enjoyed every minute! I even hit my OG exactly, and my beer came out at exactly the pitching temp I wanted! I suppose you just start seeing the positives and truly accept that, at the end of the day, you made beer.

About four batches in I followed some kit advice to transfer to a secondary after a week. I opened the bucket for the first time before fermentation had ended and saw what I thought was a terrible infection. It was just krausen. I freaked out for like an hour until I saw a lot of pictures of krausen that looked just like mine.

Horrible boilover in the garage. Lost 1/2 my wort.

Not knowing what to do, I dumped in 2 lbs of brown sugar, topped up and re-boiled.

Turned out fantastic!;)

I realized it when I was brewing a whit and mistakenly grabbed a grapefruit thinking it was an orange. It was in the spot the oranges were, and it was a nice orange color. I realized it was a grapefruit when I was zesting it for the boil. Rather than panic, I used it and the beer was delicious. I plan to make it again on purpose! Nothing like a grapefruit whit on a summer day!

She Who Must Be Obeyed

Ok, I give up. I wait weeks for one of these to pop up, and when it finally does, the game is over before it can even begin! Don't we have any mods around here?? (grumble grumble...)

I think there should be a huge sticky across the top of the forum indicating that revealing the acronyms are punishable by death!

Hahaha...funny man!

My moment was on my first batch when I called my buddy during the boil asking him questions and he told me "Hey man, crack a beer, relax, it's BEER you are making. Everything will be fine."

Dude I'm so sorry the game got called early...here, let me throw this out there, what does EAC mean?

After a year and a half my first sort of uncomfortable batch was my last one. Didn't see the usual starter activity befre I pitched and the fermentation has been totally different the whole way.
