Hi there. Really new to this home brewing as I've only brewed a coopers cerveza and a gallon of cider from apple juice. I have a coopers wheat beer kit and wheat DME. I also was given 500g of crushed wheat malt as an optional addition. Would this gelt the flavour etc? How much dextrose, DME should I add to the kit for the 23 litre brew? Thanks, Kyle

What exactly are you trying to do? If you have the kit then brew the kit, just adding additional DmE and steeping some malt will throw the balance of the recipe off because you are not adding additional hops to balance the additional sweetness of the beer.

That's my .02 any ways.........,

Was trying to improve the kit. I also have some hallerteur hops that I was thinking of adding. Think that's how you spell it :S

After only 3 batches, have you ever brewed this next kit before? If not, how do you know it needs to be improved?

IMO you should brew the kit as is and evaluate it accordingly. Most retail kits are proven recipes and as a beginning brewer it is best to stick with a proven process and improve your craft before venturing off into the world of recipe creation or modification:mug:

I haven't brewed this kit before but I heard that with the coopers kit if you substitute 500g of the dextrose with 500g of wheat dme it helps the flavour?

Ah, thought the wheat was grain, not DME. You can just swap the two ingredients then.

I would add the DME in the beginning of the boil and save the LME for the last 15 minutes and the color of your beer will be more to style.

Be sure to take the kettle off the heat so you don't scorch the LME. Once dissolved in return to heat and return to boil!

Cheers!

500 gms of Wheat Malt

No matter what kit I purchased, when I did that, if it had no "grain" I added it.

I was taught to do this to addd some "life" to the beer and in case the extract was old.

If you don't "Mash" some grains you will not get much from them... Crystal Malts are the exception as they are already converted.

You might get some mouthfeel and flavor but you will not get a lot of sugar from UnMashed grain.

The Wheat DME:

If you add this you will be changing the beers profile,,, a little might improve head retention and a lot will increase the Alcohol.

If you have some dextrose malt you should use it sparingly.... I have never seen a recipe that called for more than .5 Pounds in a 5 gallon batch...

It is just there to add mouth feel and this should not be a problem with a Wheat Beer... still SPARINGLY.
