Alot of my family was railroad. Dad started out with the, Great Northern RR, then it got bought by the, Burlington Northern. After that he got into RR construction. I did the construction side until I was 30.

I got an uncle who's a retired conductor from AmTrack, he started when it was still the G.N.RR.

I know a fair amount of people with nothing more than a high school education that make double what I make and I finished grad school.

high school educatium is for sissies.:rockin: all you need is a strong back, a weak mind, and a fridge full of pudding & beer.

fancy that! I build center sections and odd ball stuff for sprayers! I used to be a pipe welder.
Small world, big internet.. Lol
Worked as a helper for a couple years on pipeline jobs. Learned quite a bit, just never got a rig together. Decided I liked it here at home better. It's hard to homebrew in an RV. I've done it though....

I worked in a shop most of the time, but had to go to the field quite a bit. nothing like welding pipe in the middle of NE Wyoming in -10F and wind blowing 30 mph with the only shelter being your rig. now I'm in a shop all day and don't miss the field work so much!:D

Plumber/pipefitter/welder here. I do contracting mostly in power plants, food processing, chemical plants, paper mills etc. Working on a hydro electric dam for the past 14 months. I've never gotten any of that pipeline work, just small pipe 24 inch and under. Just as well, if I found a piece of thin walled 36 inch stainless I'd have to make a bk.

Education: Aerospace Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, MBA

I always wanted to learn to sanitary TIG stainless to make my own conical. largest pipe I've welded was 30", but I welded a lot of it in position without BIL welding. if we had room in the shop, I could have used the positioner as a roll out wheel.
