Just to be curious, and whats your OG average. Maybe it will help someone to get better OG(me first? ) :cross:

I'm not sure I fully understand the question, but I crush at the default BC setting of .039, and I get a brewhouse efficiency of 79-80% consistently. The majority of my beers range from 1.055-1.065.

Yes you did, and .039 isnt too big?? I think at the store im crushing my grain is set to .023, didnt sure it was right last time i crushed it at .026 and get worst effiency than my first AG, Which i though i crushed at .023

Did your volumes come out as predicted? If you overshoot your volume, your OG will be less than planned.

I suggest that you stick with one gap setting for a few batches until you have your process and system dialed in with a predictable efficiency. Then you can tighten the gap a bit in an attempt to improve efficiency.

Cheers,
Glenn

I get a nice crush with no endosperm left in the husk, and a decent amount of flour. If you are using your HBS mill, that may be the problem? As mentioned though, you should stick to one crush, make sure you have
your process down, and refined (volumes and the such) and I'm certain you'll increase your efficiency.

Here is a pic of my crush:

No intact grain in there!

I might try experimenting w/conditioning the malt before I crush it, I live in a super dry climate, humidity here is almost nil until the monsoon arrives, and I think it may play a small role in how my husks turn out.

I use the default crush on the BC of .39 as well and get a good crush. Don't forget about PH, temp, volume and boil off these can also effect your OG.
