They called it a pulled pork sandwich or something but it was closer to a calzone made with a flaky, almost croissant-like bread. It was damn good. I would post the picture of my wife chowing down on it but she'd probably be pissed I let it into the public.

Well you all may be in luck (pic from yesterday):

Agreed. Was just trying to manage expectations. If I was going to pick any place in Kona town strictly for draft beers, it would probably be Kona Brewing. The vibe is obviously a little bit corporate, but the beer list is pretty well rounded, and the pub beers tend to be solid IMO (and they have one barrel aged option on most of the time).

If we are talking the whole island, I would probably go with Big Island Brewhaus. Ola's ciders are fantastic as well.

I haven’t been to the Big Island but my wife and I went to Kona’s Hawaii Kai Brewpub on Oauhu a while back, I think 2010. I thought the draft only stuff was pretty damn good.

Went to the Maui Brewing Kihei brewery/tasting room for dinner last night. Solid beer list, good food (a bit on the pricier side for what it is, but that's Hawaii for ya) and a beautiful space.

Beer isn't going to blow you away, but the strong ale (Blowing Smoke) and Imperial Coconut Porter I had were both solid. Pretty diverse taplist as well. Was pretty impressed with the experience and would recommend.

Maui's new space is gorgeous. They had a really good tart saison on tap when we were there for lunch, think it was called Land of Rainbows.

Headed to Honolulu for the Navy-Hawaii football game on September 1. Can anyone recommend some good areas we should target for an AirBnB?

Will be with another couple so probably no time for meetups this time around, but would love to crush beers with you guys on another visit (and please let me know if you are ever on TBI).

As noted in my above post, was in Honolulu Friday - Sunday for the UH-Navy game on Saturday. Didn't have time for too much beer stuff, but swung by Beer Lab to grab some crowlers for tailgating. Grabbed Pu'u Mai, Ko'olauloa, and Kuawa Nectar, and we really enjoyed them all. It also doesn't suck that they serve beer in the stadium - never experienced that before as it's not permitted in the Pac 12, Big 10 or Big 12, and SNPA really hit the spot.

Food-wise, made it to Helena's and Piggy Smalls. Would go to both of those again in a second. Also did an obligatory Leonard's run and was a bit overzealous, so we were eating room temp malasadas in the hotel room all weekend.

Hope to catch some of you on our next trip over to Oahu.

There are parts of Husky Stadium in Seattle that have served beer for a few years now.

Whoa. I thought it was a conference thing. Guess not.

Yeah, I was surprised about it as well. They started out serving it in the Tyee Club section of the stadium but they now have a couple beer gardens that are open throughout the game to everyone.

I'm waiting for Cal to finally break down and sell beer at Memorial to try to chip away at that massive ******* debt.

I like Humpy's and go there fairly often, but I don't think the food is great. Was that sandwich the exception?

I love how much action this thread is getting. Anyone coming out to the Big Island and wanting to share beers or get beach/restaurant/activity recs, hit me up.
Just landed in Maui today. Brought a few nice beers with me as well

Nice dude. So close, yet so far away (closest part of Maui is probably 60 miles from where I'm sitting right now, but would have to fly to get there (no ferry)).

Definitely hit up the newish Maui Brewing location in Kihei - the space is pretty cool and the food is not bad.

Some other folks are probably better versed in all things Maui, but Whole Foods in Kahului probably has the best selection, and Tamura's is OK.
I popped into the Tamura's in Lahaina while waiting for a table @ Star Noodle. I just bought some Maui cans and a Lanikai bomber or two. I guess it was fine for what I needed. I think all they kept all (most?) of the beer in the fridges too which was nice.

Whole Foods in Kahului is the best selection on the island for sure. Tamuras is totally fine, though.

Make sure you do happy hour at Merrimans. Kohola's pilsner is top notch and I really like the food at the new restaurant at Maui Brewing in Kihei.

My parents are actually in Maui right now. So jealous.

Monkeypod does have a pretty solid beer selection. I was surprised. The Merriman's here has just a couple BIBH beers.

Hope your parents' trip wasn't impacted by TS Olivia. Maui got a TON of rain on Wednesday.

Merriman's patio during happy hour with some drinks is killer and probably the best place to have a drink on the island. I just had a draft pour of Kohola's Talk Story Pale which was good enough for me. My wife enjoyed her cocktail.

They flew in on Tuesday, apparently Kihei completely avoided Olivia. Gave them my glass Maui growler since I never use it. Been fun following along with their adventures this week on Untappd.

For sure. We also liked Paia Fish Market (we went to the Kihei location, though they have one in Paia as well) for lunch, and 808 Deli (also Kihei) is great if you want to grab sandwiches for the beach.

Okazuya Honokowai has killer plate lunch. There's a little organic grocery store right near it that has some decent beer.

Only downside of Maui is that everything they get aside from Kohola Brewing and Waikiki Brewing, you get in California.

Seriously, don't sleep on doing Happy Hour at Merriman's at least once. It's worth it.

Heading to Oahu in a little over a month and staying on the west side of the Island. From my quick search of this thread and the internet, going to try and hit up Beer Lab HI (University) and Inu Island Ales. Looks like a thirty minute drive from where we are staying.

Any other spots I should check out? Also, any hiking recommendations?

I like the beers I've had from Lanikai, and I've heard good things about Village Bottle Shop.

Has anyone heard what's going on with Real a Gastropub? Their new spot is supposed to open this Fall but I haven't seen any updates in months. They used to do Zwanze Day at the old location in Honolulu and regularly had Cantillon available for on-site.

I have little Oahu knowledge, but I did like BeerLab on University (haven't made it to Inu). I tend to like Lanikai's beers. If you make it to Inu, it's about a 15 minute drive from there. There is also a meadery (Paisley) that I haven't been to but is supposed to be pretty solid.

Foodwise, I would recommend Piggy Smalls for brunch and Helena's for Hawaiian. Leonard's for malasadas (a little touristy, but worth it IMO). I also have an email of other food recs from a friend - PM me if you'd like me to forward it to you.

Anyone check out the new batch of BIB Red Sea of Cocoa? One of my favorite beers.

Haven't seen any bottles yet. I'm sure I'll get over to BIBH in the next week or so, so I'll let ya know. Would have gone before dinner in Waimea on NYE but they closed at 3:00 PM.

It's one of my favorites as well.
