Hi,

I am new at brewing, doing my first batch of AG this weekend.

Can I just use regular tap water when sanitizing equipment with Star San? Just wondered since I don't wan't to waste my filter that I bought for the actual wort water.

Thanks.

Tap water should be fine but depending on the makeup of your water the Starsan may not last for an extended time. The makeup of your tap water can change the PH of the starsan and cause it to become ineffective.

I mix Starsan with distilled water and keep it for months... I use this in spray bottles and kinda small quantities just to always have some ready and on hand.

On brew day, I makeup some Starsan with tap water and dispose of it at the end of the day.

what if the tap water is full of chloramines? Then a no rinse sanitizer like starsan could end up adding some chrloamines back into the beer even if care was taken to remove chloramines from the brewing liquor.

My tap water has chloramines so I treat my brewing liquor with campden and use Distiled water for mixing starsan. Anyone else do this? Is this overkill?

yes thats over kill. if your StarSan water has chloramines in it the residual that is left when you empty your bucket or remove what ever your sanitizing form the StarSan will dilute to insignificant levels in the 5 gallons of wort.
