I am sure this has been discussed before but I searched and could not find it. I use dry hops a lot but what do folks use to hold the dry hops in the seconday? I have tried nothing which is easy but then I can end up with large hop flakes in my finished product, which is not that big of a deal for me but not everyone enjoys it. The second option I have tried is to put them in a fine bag and drop it in. However the bag is somewhat difficult to get out,
:) Does anyone have a better idea? Thank you!

Tom

Revv I will try it again. My racking and kegging has changed drastically since I just tossed them in last time. And I have one of the screens the Kev is talking about so that could work as well!
Thanks for the help. Time to add some hops!

If you are using pellets; buy a pair of nude nylons soaked in Star San, make a hop sack and put the sack in the carboy. With the tighter weaving compared to musslin bags, it keeps a lot of pellet debris out. Other wise, use a filter (nylons soaked in Star San) over your racking cane and toss in the pellets.

What works for me is a large muslin bag weighted down with stainless nuts ;) - properly boiled, and careful not to introduce too much O2. Easier to rack. Probably get a bit lower utilization, though.

If I'm dry hopping, I ferment in a bucket (otherwise, I'm a carboy kinda guy), and I throw in leaf hops in a muslin bag after fermentation is basically done. I don't bother with a secondary. Then I can just siphon around the sack. No problems with hop particles in the keg (yet).
