I acquired this mini regulator for $0 and am trying to figure out if there is any usefulness to it for the typical home brewer.

I never travel with a keg that I'd need portable CO2. The only thing I can think of is having a more portable means of flushing O2 out of either the top of a newly filled keg or the hop bong when dry hopping. Today, I have to wheel everything over to my kegerator, to use my main 10LB CO2 tank.

At least once every three months we get someone posting on here that could use it for a portable rig...maybe offer to trade for another full sized regulator or tank so that you have a seperate 'utility' CO2 rig. The cost of CO2 isn't worth it if you don't need to go mobile, plus; It's always good to have a spare tank around.
Just my 2-cents.

The small 8 and 16 gram cartridges that they take are really only good for serving already carbonated beer. Especially from minikegs when traveling. If you don't do that then don't waste your time or money on those cartridges. There are adapters that let you hook it up to a regular CO2 tank or a sodastream cylinder if you want to use it for portable CO2 around the house.

Those regulators work on Sodasteam CO2 canisters which hold more and are cheaper than the cartridges. The are great if you have a jockeybox or a portable keg cooler. I have two of them.

I carry my beer in 64 oz plastic growlers with ball lock carbonation caps when I travel to visit family. After I pour a beer I attach the mini regulator to the cap, give the growler a quick flush with CO2 and then tighten the cap to repressurize the growler. The beer stays fresh and carbonated for the next time I open it.
