What to do if I had to stop the boil?

Yesterday, I was making a pumpkin ale. The question involves the boil. Right when the wort started to boil but before I added the hops, something came up and I had to turn off the burner and leave it for a couple of hours. I put the lid on and wrapped a blanket around the brew kettle (the same blanket I use to insulate the mash/lauther-tun)

I know that basically what I have now is unhopped, reconstituted extract....

When I came back, the temp dropped to around 175 deg F. I restarted the boil, added the hops and proceeded as normal.

Chilled, pitch the yeast, fementation seems to be going as normal...

Does anyone know of any ill effects of doing this?

You should be golden, Great thinking on wrapping it up to insulate it! Could be called Quilted Pumpkin Ale, or something.

Cheers

Go ahead and boil it and do your hop additions as usual. This will sanitize everything and get the break to fall out and all. You should be golden!

No problem. On two occasions I ran out of propane & had to drive over an hour to get more. Didn't hurt the batch, even the one that was interrupted mid-boil. I now have two tanks.
