What Sanitizer do you use?

Hey, I like the suds. It lets me know that I've sanitized the object in question. They've never bothered me, and I don't feel any compulsion to rinse them off.

If you want something that will REALLY sanitize everything, check out Virkon. Now, I'm not saying it's the best choice for the home brewer, but when it comes to little nasties, this stuff kicks a$$ and doesn't take any names.

P.S. I personally use Iodaphor and bleach.

bleach

i can't justify spending 4 dollars for 4 ounces when bleach will give me 4 litres for 4 dollars, which i can also use to clean the bathroom :)

the time factor the way i figure it is negligible since if you put equipment in with bleach at the start before you get everything else ready, by the time your water is boiled and you've mixed and measured everything, 15-20 mins is easily gone.

1 minute rinse in hot water and all the bleach is gone.

what's so hard about that?

I use starsan.

It's dirt cheap when you account the fact that you can reuse it. It goes from my primary, to the secondary, to the bottling bucket/keg and sometimes back to another carboy for later usage. One ounce in five gallons lasts quite a while.

I use Starsan, Iodophor and heat.

Starsan because it last for at least a week and doesn't stain. I don't mind the bubbles, but I don't like using it on carboy bungs because they simply pop out of the carboy.

Iodophor because it works great for the bungs, and is a bit cheaper than Starsan, but it doesn't last for more than a day, and stains. I nust admit, I do like emptying it in the sink after SHMBO has cleaned it, and pointing out the deep stains.

Heat for mason jars and water that are going to be used for yeast washing.

Anyone using C-Brite?

That's what they carry at my LHBS, and what I've been using on my grand total of 4 brews. The first two came out great! The third is aging in the bottles, and the 4th is in the primary (about a week overdue for transfer to the secondary, but I may just bottle right from the primary, I don't care about the haze)

I also used C-brite.....it was what the lhbs had by me as well..thought it worked sufficently enough for my very first brew >>>HAHAHA<<<< and to rinse and clean everything when complete....
hey i got a question...can you store mixed c-brite. i had set a gallon aside when i did my apfelwine to use to ckean my hedrometer and stuff and its been sitting in the bottle still 4 days later....does that stuff go bad or no?
