What makes a saison/sour/etc "petite"?

I can't find an answer to this. I've seen petite sours and petite saisons, but what makes it petite? I feel like a dumb-dumb but I'm at a loss here. Thanks.
 
I think it is that the Petite version is a lower alcohol level than normal. I looked at the recipe for Northern Brewer's Petite Saison D`ete. It is described as a session-strength summer style. It is supposed to have an OG of 1.041. My average brew is 1.055.
