some dry ale yeast i got from a friend.

steep grains in cold water until water heats up to 170 degrees, remove. turn heat up for first boil. in second pot start brewing hop tea. once hot break hits continue to boil and add hops to tea at the perscribed times. at end of boil add hops tea strained through fine mesh strainer. cool wort and to primary and pitch starter.

starter will be made with water dry yeast and brown sugar.

i brewed this up this weekend, smells like hops heaven to me!! what would you call it?? i'm calling it a small beer!

I'd call that a killer IPA :) I plugged your hop schedule into a couple spreadsheets, both giving a final IBU in the triple digits :D

remember though, i made a hop tea seperate from the wort this time! i'm not sure how its gonna work, but i'll let you all know! i'm thinking on naming it 5 bite ale. i poured the hop tea in at the the very end of the boil and boiled 5 extra mins.

if you boiled the hops in a separate pot of water, you will have extracted more bittering from them. Yowza.... that will be some bitter juice there.

on a side note: if you boil hops sepraterly, then the main wort (grains, extract and water) need only boil for about 15 minutes to sanitize and get a hot break. Any boiling beyond this is not accomplishing anything other than darkening the color.

I boiled .5 oz of Cascades at 7% AA in 1/2 gal of water for 1 hour the other night.

My basement smelled just like someone had smoked a very large joint in it. I was waiting for the cops to show up.

I added 3 cups of hop tea to a batch of English Ale (I think) that was a tad sweet to try to balance it out a bit. I don't get home for another 2 weeks. I'll try to give an update when I bottle.
