My new brewing setup came in and it has a tank that I can not figure out what it's for.
Seem's like most manufacturers in Colombia build them with it and it comes standard with the system, they call it a "lung tank". It's basically a cut corny keg with nothing inside, an inlet and an outlet and it connects to the main pump.

I was planning on using it as a hopback, what do you guys think?

Probably a grant.

It would be used during sparging.

You drain the MLT to the grant via gravity. Pump from the grant outlet to the boil vessel. This way, you can pump to the kettle without worrying about impacting the grain bed by pumping too fast.

But in sure in a relatively small setup like the one pictured, it could easily be converted to either a hop back or an inline filter you could use before the heat exchanger.
