So, I'm still using my Mr. Beer kit until I get comfortable enough to switch to carboys and AG. I am on my second batch now (dark winter ale with some dry hops added for more flavor). I know, I went out on a wim and got a little crazy so I hope it works out.

So here's my question... What is the best way ti carbonate my brew? I tried half my bottles with regular granulated sugar and the other half with the carbonation drops I got with the kit. I have checked in on the bottles and I have noticed that the ones with the drops are harder than the ones that I put regular sugar in. I do not want to keep buying drops (obviously) so what is the best way to get the best carbonation I can?

Thanks. :tank:

You can put pretty much use whatever you want. Wait I mean sugar. But brown, granulated, glazed etc. Most people just use dextrose, corn sugar. Find a beer/wine making store near where you live and buy some dextrose! I pay around 6$ for 2kg. To carbonate one batch of beer, you will need between 100g and 160g (about). Also, if you are ready to pay a little bit more, you can use DME to carbonate and to hydrate your yeast. Some say it does a cleaner job. I don't really see the difference. Good luck!

Bulk prime by boiling some water-I use 2C-& adding the weighed amount of priming sugar to it off the heat. Stir it in till the water clears again. Then add it to the beer while it racks into a bottling bucket. But with a Mr Beer kit, you'd need a smaller bucket & maybe 1C of water, since you do like 2 gallons. Here's the priming calculator I use; http://www.tastybrew.com/calculators/priming.html
