Help me out here, got this as part of a white elephant gift exchange from my LHBS.

Hmmm.... perhaps it's a handle to pick up a false bottom? The one for my kettle has a bail that could be grabbed with that.

12 inches from the top of the handle to the bottom of the hook. What's a cage twister?

Looks like the hook for the hanger from a turkey fryer if you ask me. I could be wrong though.

my first thought was to lift a turkey out of a deep fryer

I looked up cage twisters online, little wooden handle with a small hook. This thing is way overkill for that, made from 1/4" stainless tubing.

All has been revealed. It's a bottle lifter, designed/made by one of the homebrew club members. Used for lifting bottles out of boiling water or sanitizer.
