Basically what the title says. Just noticed a few white blobs floating on top of my latest batch of cider. Could it be bits of apple from the juicing process or something more sinister. More importantly, if it is infected, what is an infection, and will it kill me if I drink it. :drunk::drunk:

Ill keep an eye on its growth/progress and report back.

Looks like yeast or maybe some apple if you juiced your own I would say see how it tastes if it's infected it won't hurt you but it will taste off. The acidity and presence of alcohol will prevent harmful bacteria from growing in your cider.

Thanks for the reply mkyl428,

Yes we juice our own and nothing has changed in the two days that have passed since the report.
Would it be possible to have a look at my other thread as there are more pictures there with a lot of sediment at the bottom of the Demijohn

Thanks again mkyl428

I looked at the other thread too. It's kinda hard to tell from the pics, but again it looks pretty normal to me the sediment is a mixture of yeast and probably some bits of apple.

Thanks again for the reply,

Not that it matters to anyone else but me, but ill keep this thread posted on how things turn out.

By the way, Ive noticed lots of threads with people making cider with supermarket apple juice, I didnt know this could be done. Im wondering what it tastes like and if its as good as the cider I make from our gardens apples. I might have to give it a try during the darker months Ö

Fresh pressed apple juice is the best of all worlds. Second to that is cider from a local orchard, which is what I use. Supermarket juice tends to be low in sugar and flavor but that can be enhanced by adding frozen concentrate which a lot of folks around here do.

I have some of that on top of my 1st batch of cider 3 gal. I broke it down in 3 1 gal jugs 2 jugs went too the freezer 2nd of which tasted a little sour now being this is my 1st go around with cider I was not sure if this is a given! the sour taste. have not tried last gal jug at time of posting but there is no floating debris on it 1st gal jug I froze very little sour taste but 2nd was strong any feedback would be great..:mug:

I made a video of how I made mine and how its going. Ill post it in a new thread as soon as I get over how terrible I look and sound on it. Im having more problems with this batch, one of which is the airlock and bung that is leaking, and now not bubbling. I hope to get it uploaded tomorrow.
