Hello all, I am looking to brew my first batch tomorrow with the help of this forum everything has been comfortable in terms of collecting and deciding the first recipe.

Thank you all for that.

Sorry if its a repeat question as it is i am sure but i couldnt find something as specific even after looking.

Now,
I have only been able to get hold of betadine and tinture of iodine for the sanitation purpose.
I have not been able to find any idophor.

Now the question is should I have any trouble using either one of these and which one is more preferably.

The specs for tincture of iodine-

Tincture Iodine IP ’66

Iodine 2 % w/v ;

potassium Iodide 2.5 % w/v, alcohol 45 - 48 % v/v

The specs of betadine-

5% povidone-iodine
.5% available iodine

Please suggest how much of it should I use specifically for sanitisation of all that needs to be sanitized.

Thank you all once again.

Get some StarSan. Much easier/safer to use and no rinse is necessary. You should also keep a spray bottle of StarSan handy for unexpected needs.

Govner, mate I am brewing in India, there isn't much of anything available here.

Therefore stuck between the two choices.
I do travel to EU once every year so will GEF my supplies of everything next time I am travelling but this time around I will have to stick with what I got.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Is import an issue? If not, I'll send you a bottle!

Thats awfully nice of you Govner.
But i managed well with a no rinse betadine mixture for now.
Got my batch in and the fermentation too has begun, now if everything does turn out well i will continue using this.

I am also writing a little blog and trying to create a little more awareness on how possible it is to brew in India with stuff found in the country.

Getting stuff from outside will kind of defeat my purpose of starting a blog.

But in all honesty thank you for asking, i didn't think anyone would.

I will send a link to you when it is live, please visit it and advice me where and when i need it, I will however continue using homebrewtalk to extract more information.
