What I did for beer today

Just ordered another bag of Belgian Pils and 10 pounds of Victory, along with hops for an upcoming brew of Belgian strong ale. NB was out of stock on Wyeast 3739 Flanders Golden, anybody know where I could score some online?

Kicked the dunkel, cleaned the keg and tapline. Kegged and tapped wild ale #3, which I was nervous about, but it came out great. Wild ale #4 is already a failure: clear signs of mold, so I had to dump.

More beer. Mashing as I write this. Half maris otter, half golden promise with a pinch of DRC. Got EKG, Fuggles and Target, haven't decided yet what when and how much though as I normally go by feel and shoot from the hip making stuff up as I go along, rarely goes amiss but a bit tough to replicate though I VERY rarely make the same beer twice anyway.

I sort of do my house beer like that. I know the grain bill before I start but hops are in flux sometime up till 10 or 15mins left in the boil. My indecisions are mostly trying to figure out whether to open a new package or use something already open. I use beersmith and measure my hops so I can reproduce the beer if I wanted.

Been working on a crate for 750ml Belgian bottles. Because of the height, had to make a separate lid to protect the necks.

Today was a milestone in my brewing career. I tapped my first ever kegged homebrew; a pint for myself and another for mi'lady. It was a 1.060 stout we brewed together last friday and kegged this friday so obviously its a bit green still and the carbonation isn't quite right, but it felt great pullin' that lever for the first time. The pour was smooth and the head was good though it faded quickly; let's see how it improves over the next few weeks. On a side note, for now faucet #2 has star san on tap for cleaning chores, etc. until my next batch is ready to be kegged. This is so much fun I want to brew all my recipes over again to try them on tap!

Figured out what I have hop wise laying around and wrote a couple of recipes. 1st is a small 3gal batch to build up 05 yeast cake. Next is a TIPA loosly based on Mad Fermentationalist Pliney the Younger clone.

Big week coming up. Bottling my kegged beers. Doing mega keg cleaning. Brewing the 3gal IPA. Transferring the Dubbel to keg then brewing the Westvleterian12 clone to throw on top of that yeast cake. I'll find time to drink a few somewhere..[emoji6]

Finally got around to replacing the beer lines in the kegerator; I've had the line for almost 2 months. Figured it was about time since I had a seriously overcarbed IPA in there that just wouldn't come down (even using fastricky's method). New 3/16" line at about 7 feet did the trick! Old lines came with the kegerator and were way too short (less than 3') so it was time. All this while supervising today's brew, which is happily boiling away.

Another beer for Fellowship of the Home Brew??

Varnished the beer crate I've been working on, scrubbing all kettles and fermenters in preparation for my African vacation. Still have one empty fermenter to go, and one full one. I'm thinking about bottling that batch of tripel maybe Wednesday, then scrubbing that one out.

I can't help myself and I might be banished from the team but did you say you were going to scrub one out?

Bottled the red rye my coworker and I made during our student’s finals week. It was his first brew day and he’s hooked! He got his half batch and I have already given my half away to various and sundry (it’s my most popular recipe).

I was able to put the IPA on gas and cold crash, though, and I have two batches ready for a future brew day, so not really sad about only getting one pint out of the 5G. I am drinking a Sierra Nevada PA and thinking about how very blessed I am to have a Sunday like this.

Was wondering if you had something inside the lid to keep it from sliding off, but I guess it is not needed if you are going to add a hinge.
I was originally going with a raised lip on the crate side, and a mating groove on the lid side, but it wasn't fitting well, so I cut the lip off the crate. I was still planning on hinging it, though.
