Took an inventory of my hops and tweaked some recipes. Would ideally like to use the rest of the 2017 harvest hops this year. Shouldn't be a problem, but I'll probably be brewing more IPA's in one year than I've done in my brewing life up until now ;).

checked the gravity on my cda and top-cropped some yeast for the next batch while I was at it. I had to move the beer up to the top step of the basement since it's 62 degrees down there. Trying to warm it up some when the ambient temp in my house is in the 60s!

Rigged up an emergency temp controller for a previously out-of-commission freezer. It had a bad fan and tstat. My hop freezer went down. It was a nice chest freezer. I had roughly 30 lbs in it, along with 2 or 3 bags of ice. The ice melted, and floated/submerged my hop inventory. Lost about 4 lbs of galaxy, 2 lbs of Denali, 2 lbs of El Dorado, and quite a bit of miscellaneous whole cone. Even one of the unopened bags managed to get water in it. I am depressed.
That's rough. So sorry. But at least those things are replaceable. You'll be restocked in no time! Keep your head up brew trooper!

Hey thanks. At least I didn't lose everything. Still have plenty to keep me going, just have to reassess some recipes. My big juicies will have to wait. Maybe I'll do some sours and a Mild or two.

Took a hydrometer & taste sample of the Manny's clone I brewed last Saturday (yes only 4 days in) because the krausen already dropped...probably because it fermented in the house because ferment fridge is still working on lager at 50. APA is already down to 1.012 from 1.065, cloudy and a bit sweet yet but should finish out into something good. Going to let it work on getting rid of a slight fusel/ester issue for a few more days then move it out to the garage to cool off. Dunno yet if I'm going to dry hop it, has a great flavor from the Cascade that went in at 60 and 30 so might leave it out.

Been washing bottles, and cleaning. The airlock on the black ipa is bubbling vigorously and smells great. Also, on the not beer side of brewing, I transferred a gallon of JAOM to secondary.

Replaced the o-rings in 1 of my Perlick faucets, yeehaw!

Came up with my next three recipes for this winter's brewing. A California common, a saison and a blonde stout.

That was fun!

I absolutely adore sitting here on my laptop dreaming up what I want to brew next. Mostly it's tried and true recipes that are family favorites, but once in a while I try to come up with something new. Can't wait for my home-roasted and caramelized malts to be ready to turn into something in two weeks.

Last night added 32g dry hop of hop hash to my IIPA. Today will be no brewing but tomorrow will include:

Bottling Beet Kvass
Bottling Margarita Gose
Drinking my last Hermit Thrush Green St. and making a starter with the yeast sediment for my next sour fermentation.

Attempting to resuscitate some yeast! Bought some yeast 1450 (Denny's Fave) about 3 months ago. They aren't out of date but when I looked in the fridge, where they have resided since date of purchase, somehow the pack was activated... Shiznit. But I am determined to try and grow them out in a starter. I will post once I determine viability.

.Return of the yeasty Dead! Good luck, probably be ok since refrigerated

Cruising the usual online sites for a 3-4 gallon fermenter for small batch lagers that will fit in my half fridge. Torn between 4.7 gallon glass wide mouth and stainless steel 4 gallon conical.. decisions decisions..I'm a stainless steel fanatic
