What I did for beer today

Brewed a batch of zombie dust last night after weighing out a pound of citra hops into ounces. Gonna try to brew again later today.

Some fat lady's pantyhose?

Spotted these things while SWMBO was shopping for new shoes. It's one of those disposable socks that the shoe shops give to customers. I only used it once before dry hopping.

Brewed up an American Pale Ale. Hit my 149f mash temp, without software for the strike temp. 1st Runnings, had such a nice golden color.

Soon after, my Neighbor, who is also a home brewer, came by with a glass of his newest batch. Then I showed him how I brew with my setup. He was curious about my March pump, and recirculating the wort.

I'm thinking of a way, to convince him we should make and split batches together.
Oh, this just keeps getting better and better!

I did a wet run on my system to try out the new fill port and thermometer/sight glass on my HLT.

Damn... got a leak with 175° water. Was fine with 60°. I'll have to wait until later in the week to try and resolve that.

Made a 1 gallon batch of cider, cleaned 3 kegs, and put apfelwein in one and a mixed fruit blonde in another.

Since finally getting my own computer back, I started proofreading my home brewing book. Gotta get it out there real soon.

Assembled and tested my new Mark's keg washer and a new Bayou burner I got in the mail this morning. IT seems the brewery purchases never end

I know that's right! Always something to re-arrange the brewery with, gadgets, glasses, etc. It never stops...the brewery that wouldn't die!

Dry hopped my double IPA, with the usual suspects: Amarillo, Simcoe, and Citra.

Racked my Flanders Red to secondary with oak and brandy. Sample tasted promising!

Racked my Blueberry/raspberry melomel again (tertiary?).


Made a cyser with unpasteurized cider and reused fruit from the melomel (and honey).

Also have 1 gal of just the unpasteurized cider going. Fingers crossed for some interesting wild cider.

Picked up the ingredients for my Gingerbread Ale @ my LHBS along w/ some extra WY1217 for an IPA I have planned next week.

Made a 5 liter starter in attempts to revive a couple of old white labs vials. So far, no luck. Also, cleaned up some brew gear I'm selling to purchase a new chest freezer fermentation chamber.

realized that my california ale yeast didn't start, so i went to the brewstore and got a dry pack of BRY-97 American West Coast by Danstar. the starter is taking off like a superhero. my brew will have yeast in it by tomorrow morning.

Turns out his uncle? is at deaths door and is really into homebrewing (and the other thing that we dont talk about here). He asked if I would be interested in his old equipment (though he previously destroyed some 20-30 glass carboys). I told him that I would accept anything brewing related as long as it is not any trouble for him. So, I have that going for me.

Turns out his uncle? is at deaths door and is really into homebrewing (and the other thing that we dont talk about here). He asked if I would be interested in his old equipment (though he previously destroyed some 20-30 glass carboys). I told him that I would accept anything brewing related as long as it is not any trouble for him. So, I have that going for me.

As a nice gesture , I suggest finding out what his favorite beer was, brew in his honor and hand out to his family.

Worked on a kegerator build today. I'm still waiting on the last couple parts, and those won't be in until next week, so I am now just waiting.

Took my not-yet-2-year-old daughter with me to the LHBS to pick up the ingredients for my CacaOut Oatmeal Stout that I'll be brewing in the next week. Also grabbed a blowoff tube and a BIAB bag. Then ordered a 2L Erlenmeyer flask online.
