What do you store your hydrometer in?

The plastic tube that my hydrometer came with is trashed. It's plastic and is falling apart.What do you keep yours in.

I store mine in the plastic tube that it....oh, wait :cross:

Throw it in your plastic measuring tube that you use to take gravity readings, rubber band and some saran wrap over the top. Could also use an old shoe box and stuff it full of toliet paper or paper towels for some shock absorption.

I melted my sample tube with boiling wort so now I keep it in a paper towel tube. Dont use it as much any more now that I have a refractometer......this thing is worth every penny and I wish I had gotten one years ago.

i have seen people use plastic pvc for sanitizing. would work for a storage tube as well.

I put it inside the original plastic tube, then put that into the testing tube. I started doing that when the original tube started to crack and fall apart a bit.

On a side note, I wish they made hydros that were 'sturdier'

I store mine in my wine thief, which I always keep in a bucket of sanitizer in my beer room. I broke a hydrometer about a year ago due to keeping it in an unsafe place, but so far this system has been working for me.

The plastic measuring tube. Why would you need to sanitize it ???

The cardboard box it came in. But I have a cracked sampling tube I could use if necessary.

+1. Best place to store the hydrometer is inside the wine thief.

I like the wine thief idea. I'll have to see if my hydrometer will fit in my thief (a $1.69 turkey baster) for when my tube wears out.

my problem is the woman in my life

2 broken hydrometers and the latest

is my youngest daughters zeal to clean the kitchen

lifts my clean towel full of my sanatized airlocks and bungs

moves it 6 feet away

and loses my caps to the air locks !!!!

now i have to buy 2 new airlocks cause she thought thoses caps were from

a hotsauce container

Same here. Every once in a while some gunk builds up in there and when it does I just clean it with a bottle brush.
