So my kegs of California Common and Apfelwein both kicked within the last couple of weeks, and today was the first day I had available to clean the kegs. I am fairly new to kegging, so I wanted to see how much was left below the liquid tube that I was missing. I took out a pitcher, opened the keg lid, and poured out the Common. Then I transferred to a pint glass and found that I had about a pint. Holding it up to the light it was obviously pretty yeasty.

What to do? I took a sip, then put it in the fridge to let the yeast settle out. I repeated with the Apefelwein, but as expected there was no visible yeast, as I racked off the lees. Mmmmm. Breakfast.

A pint sounds like quite a bit. There is nothing in the bottoms of my kegs but a few dregs. Does your dip tube go all the way to the bottom?

Actually, the keg with Apfelwein probably had about 5-6 ounces. The keg with Common probably had about 12 ounces. I'm not really going to worry about it.

Sludge only left in my kegs. I usually add a cup of boiling water to it, let it sit then dump and proceed with some Oxyclean to clean the keg.

I never measured, but I have only a bit of yeast on the bottom. Probably about 2 ounces or so. My diptube goes right to the bottom, but I have heard of people that cut their diptubes so they don't suck up yeast.
