Mine tasted disgusting (1.100) - hot like its 40% abv.
I know - it will settle down after a couple of months but my other strong beers didn't taste like this.

Sounds like you know the answer here (RDWHAHB). Also, what was your fermentation temp? Too high and it could've produced more alcoholic flavors.

Yeah, anything that big is going to be hot after only a week. Try it again in a few months.

A week after what? Pitching? Bottling/kegging? I wouldn't expect it to taste particularly good after either. I'd expect it to be harsh, bitter, and maybe even metallic 1 week after pitching, in particular. Relax.

Am I the only one that doesn't mind a "hot" beer? Maybe it's the bourbon drinker in me, but if it's big and balanced, I don't mind some warmth, what many claim is "way too hot". SN/DFH Life and Limb was awesome when we first got it. Some said it was way to hot. I didn't think so. Slightly warming, but went well and it was great. I have another aging.

That being said, my first RIS went rogue (my FES is awesome though!). In about a month I will be brewing a massive 14-15% RIS if all goes well. I'll let you know how that is. I had a IIPA/BW (kind of between both styles) that was awesome as well shortly after carbonating. A little warmth, but still great.

looked like used motor oil. smelled like chocolate, roasted goodness, and alcohol. tasted bitter and warming and delicious. can't wait until it's done. og 1.084
