Asparagus is a stellar vegetable.
Not sure of the latitude but old rail roads and sandy areas up northI have never seen asparagus growing down here. It's possible you're correct, but I think it's more likely to see folks picking wild greens (collard, mustard, turnip) along the rural roads.
