Hello All,

I have a friend traveling to San Diego and offered to bring be back some beer. What are must haves?

Alesmith! Get yourself some Speedway Stout variants. The Vietnamese version is the best non-barrel aged stout I've had to date....and I've had tons of stouts.

Lost Abbey and Mike Hess Brewing are other good choices.

Modern Times for sure, IPA, BA stouts, sours

Other to check out:

Council - sours, IPA
Pizza Port Brewing- IPAs, red ales
Toolbox- sours, IPA
Rip Currant- IPAs, Pale, lager
Coronado Brewing- IPA, Pale, stout
Cellar 3- will have Green Flash and Alpine beers as well this is the sour cellar of GF
Mikkeller is no longer a gypsy brewer and has a brewery near Alesmith.

AleSmith would be my top recommendation. They have some great beers. grab some .394 San Diego Pale and some stuff in their big bottles (speedway stout variants especially).

I would also highly recommend Alpine brewing and probably some Green Flash as well.

A great one stop shop would be Lost Abbey/Port/Hop Concept. Three great "versions" of a brewery and all fantastic beers. Also a top choice of mine.

If hes going to get stone I'd recommend going to the brewery and picking up some stuff from there that isn't easy to find in just a liquor store. They do re-releases of their vertical epic series and some of those are fantastic. They'll also have everything else they sell. The Go To SIPA and Delicious IPA have given me knew respect for Stone just when I thought they were getting boring.

Mike Hess has some great stuff too and I don't think they get enough love in San Diego. They sell cans of habitus (IIPA) and Solis (IPA) that are both great and then assorted bombers. You can also get a crowler from them.

Mikkeller is in the old alesmith brewery so if you haven't had any of their stuff you can get a couple bottle brought back for you.

If you like red IPAs mother earth brewing company has an excellent one called righteously hopped red IPA. And other great stuff. They sell a lot of cans which is easier to transport.

OK my long winded recommendations are over. I;m sure whatever you get will be great

Edit: Modern times as well. Forget saint archer they don't bottle their best stuff and you'll find it across the country soon since coors bought em.
