My Black IPA. It got considerably more dry with some age.Its black but ruby/mahogony up to the light and you can tell its crystal clear,has better head/head retention than most commercial craft(not that it matters that much) ,taste is pretty good but nothing on a Stone Sublimley Self Righetous. I steeped some black malt and boiled it with my priming sugar for bottleing because I didnt think it was black enough, but dont think Im going to do that again.I was naming it a Not so black IPa, and recently I found out Lagunitas( I think)maybe DFH-not shure or someone had named this name for their black IPA.Thought that was neat-0.

Gulden Draak 9000 quad. Oh my. Oh wow. Now I remember why I use to like Belgians because I was drinking real belgians and not the American belgians. I dont know what it is but almost every american belgian style has been unispiring to the point that if they offer one its last on the list for me per brewery.
I only liked one of the SN series but havent tried their quad yet,guess I should or maybe I should have just aged them because Ive only tried them upon release,now that I think of it. Im shure there is certainly some good ones here but seems the bar is pretty high. Im kinda re-inspired to start dabbeling in these again.

1 lb Biscuit malt
1 lb Crystal 80L
1 lb Cara-pils
1 lb Chocolate malt
1 lb Flaked Oats
1 lb Lactose @ 5min

1.25 oz Apollo (18%) @ 60 min

1 L starter of WLP300

Secondary for two weeks:
4 oz Cacao nibs
2 vanilla beans gutted and soaked in vodka

Mash @ 154 F for 60 min

OG: 1.070
FG: 1.016
IBU: 57.6
ABV: 7.1%
SRM: 28.4

Put PUmkin in a lager call it yum and name it Lakefront PUmpkin Lager! . You like lager? you like spice? you like pumpkin? YOu like! Way to go Milwaukee-IM basically not talking about Miller Lite.
For some reason now I think of it it remindes me of how a Stone Ipa is but without the bitter hoppiness. The bubblegummy cleanness is what remindes me of that. Thats not really one of my favorate ipa's either but havent had that for some time either.

Did a quick midday tasting at Societe Brewing in San Diego today. Only open 6 mos. very nice facility. Tasted 3 IPAs, one Belgian pale, one Belgian dark strong and a Russian imperial stout. All the lights were good. I preferred The Pupil IPA and the Belgian pale. Both were refreshing, distinctive and true to style although the pale had an appreciated Hoppiness. The darks were less appealing to me because the nature of the roastiness was not to my liking. Nevertheless, well crafted beers.

Southern Tier Pumking. I don't know... I just don't think it's really a pumpkin beer. Sure, the pumpkin is there, but it's way overshadowed by the ginger. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a really good beer, just not what it claims to be.

Nice! I'm enjoying an English brewed, 80/- ish ale from Daleside. Haven't had this one before. Pretty nice, very malty, some dark fruit-y esters. I like.



Goes very well with a cigar, as do most good British ales.

Pipeline Porter is damn good. I used to live in Hawaii so I got it ultra fresh. Usually had at least one whenever SWMBO and I went to the restaurant on Oahu.

Due to piss poor logistics on my part, that is all I've got on tap right now, all I've got in a secondary ready to go, my next beer wont be ready for a week and it's pumpkin ale so I probably won't be drinking it as regular as my other beers and it's going to be at least a couple weeks until I've got another beer ready!

Not that I'm bitching about my Black Butte. Consensus is that it's better than the original. Yumm.

I need to keep my eyes open for this in cans. I only ever see it in the clear glass bottles. It's a fantastic beer, but it's very rare I can get a bottle that's not skunked.

That'd be awesome! I collect glassware, and would gladly get you a Surly, Summit, Schell's, etc. pint along with some more beers.

I'm not sure, but I think it may be an InBev Diagio thing. If my memory serves right (and it may not at this point), I remember Boddington's and Caffrey's being in nitro cans not long after Guinny, if not at the same time.

I know whatcha mean... Bellhaven and Old Speckled in cans, amazing. In the clear bottles, almost always skunk city. I'd love to find them non-skunk, non-nitro, to see what they're like. Nitro is so smoothing to the hops, it makes for a great drink, but it leaves questions about the real deal back in Britain.

Very quickly becoming my favorite locally available IPA. Really solid, über hoppy. Brickhouse cigar, amazingly aromatic but 'meh' on flavor/body.

Check out the floaties!! Blurry pic, my camera's balls and I've got a beer buzz, but I love seeing swimmers in my IPAs!!

Once Old Speckled Hen showed up in cans around here, I've refused to get a bottle since. Can or draft only. If only I could find the Belhaven...

I can (haha).... I'm tapped 'til next payday, but I'll gladly do a trade after that. There's plenty of things in VA that we can't get here. And if you're into English/British beers, we get a great selection here. Some, like the Morocco Ale are new to me.

Epic's name says it all. Everything I've tried from them is gold. Hopulent is a stellar IPA, as is their Imperial IPA. The Imperial Red is very good too. They have a golden strong and a wine barrel aged version that I'm looking forward to trying. Great brewery, I'm glad we get them here.


In honor of the hometown team, I'm finishing the night with a hometown favorite.....

Thanks to the Vikes stellar performance this evening, the Bears are in first place and looking good. And this beer is looking nice next to a pipe full of stinky English tobacco.

I've always had good experiences with Bellhaven, even in the clear bottles. Never had a skunked beer from them. It's probably the handling by the distributor, but it sucks you can't get beer you like more readily because someone else doesn't know how to handle it.

Because it's only 4:30, and I just finished a great bike ride, I'm not drinking anything right now. Last night, I went to a concert, and the local brew pub (the Great Dane, for those who live in or near Madison, WI) had something called Abrikoos. It was fantastic. So was the IPA I had, which they called Texas Speed Bump. No idea why, but it was nice and hoppy.
