An FG hydrometer sample of my pacific pils. Fermented with 34/70 at 66F and it seemed to be done at about the day 3 mark at which point I dry hopped. Let it sit a few more days with a spunding valve and a free temp rise that got up to about 69f and it got up to about 7-8 psi. It tastes amazing. I’ll be out of town all next week and am excited for this when I get back home.

With a name like Alesmith, you have to ask yourself how the heck are these guys in the Lager business? Wouldn’t that maybe be the “Lagersmith” division or something like that? Send me the commission checks here!

Anyway, Alesmith is one of my favorite brewers, producing fantastic beers in the heart of that West-Coast beer Mecca, San Diego, California. Anvil Pilsner is their 4.9% ABV masterpiece of a Pilsner. I’m not even going to call it a Pacific Pilsner, this one rates “Euro”, is one almost clear, and check out that head and lacing – STUPENDOUS!

I’m loving the 1930’s can graphics too – but how does it taste man, quit dragging it out? ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Close your eyes and this is one of the best German –Style Pils in the states, better than a lot of continental Pils I’ve had. Remember when I gave you the tip on Sullivans? Here’s my new Christmas present to you… NEW TIP – chase this bad boy down! Definitely worth it!

THIS IS THE FINEST DOMESTIC PILSNER I’VE YET HAD! GO OUT AND BUY SOME! DRIVE DOWN TO THE NEXT STORE AND CLEAR THEM OUT TOO, AND THE NEXT! BUY IT ALL, ORDER MORE! WRITE YOUR BREWER! Old Beermeister32 won’t steer you wrong!

Only tease are the dinky 12 ounce cans. Bring me a 24 ouncer of this! A new meaning for “It’s Hammertime!” Prost…. Dude and Dudettes!

I had a busy day. I did the annual spring car cleaning: strip, iron and fallout, clay, paint correction, polish, and wax. Only took 6.5hrs. Then I swapped out a bottle of CO2 and kegged this ale. Not sure what to call it, it's 5% brown malt, 2.5% UK light crystal and the rest is Otter with Ringwood and Fuggles. It tastes fine as chewy fermenter dregs, eager to see what it's like when it drops clear.

Rejoice my avian friends! I have provided you with a clean and shiny target to defile.

I enjoyed a glass of Panther Piss while working on my magnum opus write up on The Panther Piss Project. Earlier this week it was magnificent in its scope, coming in at a positively Wagnerian ten pages--just with fewer buxom ladies in funny hats. Well, no ladies, buxom or otherwise, in any sort of hats, if I'm honest. But you get the idea, it was my Der Ring des Nibelungen! Now it has been chopped down to a mere 1.5 pages, but I suppose the Kill Da Wabbit version gets the job done and that's the important part.

Working on a freshly kegged English Brown ale with Fuggles and EKG, poured on a new NukaTap faucet with flow control. (I was having some issues on Tap #2 - which I believe was mostly due to a faulty gauge, not the faucet). But wanted to try a flow control faucet so I got one, swapped out the blinky gauge and it is pouring like a pretty princess. That is good. Ha.

Warsteiner makes a great Pilsner. There, I said it! The only thing sad is these two cans don’t quite fit my 28 ounce glass! OK, they WOULD fit if we were talking low-head brews, but who wants them! I say fill it until it won’t fill any more, and then fill it again!

This really is a terrific Pils. Warsteiner just doesn’t ship a lot of this to the US. I’ve seen a few of the combo boxes showing up, so maybe the shipping situation is improving. You know I was getting kind of used to all the West Coast and US Pilsners that were available, I’m really remiss in not finishing strong with some of these German brews! Check out the clarity and lacing…. SUPERB!

Warsteiner “Pilsener” (Northern German spelling variation) is a great tasting, 4.8% ABV German Pils. Looking at the can though, I see something I don’t see much of in German brews…. Hop extract! Well, it also says “Naturally Brewed According the German Purity Law”, so it must be Ok then. Hey, does that mean they were brewing with “Hop Extract” back in 1516? Now I’m REALLY impressed!

Great brew, get it when you can find it… Prost!
