My treat for hiking up Mount Hochfelln. Kaiserschmarrn mit Apfelkompott and Franziskaner Dunkle Weisse - beside the stunning view of course....

Something from south of the border to start tonight’s beers

One of my favourite beers from The Kernel. Hops change with every batch (ABV also varies). This particular version is single hopped with Columbus

Two of the 4 kegerator lines are empty, the other two running low.

I might have to brew a batch inspired by this next weekend (Recipe is widely available online)

Not now but last night. Opened a test 16oz bottle of the Black Pearl's Revenge to compare to an actual Piraat ale.

Sadly, the Piraat ale was much better than its clone. But both were good; the clone is still carbonating, but is super clear in the bottle and is very palatable even at room temperature and very little carbonation.

Wow, what can you say? ANOTHER terrific German Pilsner!

König Pilsener has a name stylized in the more Northern spelling “Pilsener”, but it’s the same great stuff. König-Brauerei (King Brewery to us serfs) is based out of Duisburg-Beeck, about an hour’s drive North of Cologne and conforms to the 1516 Reinheitsgebot Beer Purity Law. Gebraut mit König-Hefe und Deutchem Hopfen! My kind of brew!

This is a great Pilsner, and not found very often here in the “States.” It’s a standard 4.9% ABV brew, but really has a nice malt backbone to go along with the upper-medium Pilsner hopping levels. REALLY makes for a delicious Pilsner. I’m sitting here drinking and munching on my palate-cleansing unsalted walnuts and I can’t believe how fast this scrumptious half-liter has disappeared. I even checked if there was more in the can, it’s like BIG TIME GONE!!!! Prost!

Tried one of my funk project beers last night that has been cellaring for over a year. This beer is named Hopped Up & Funky. It’s a a golden ale that was fermented with Bootleg Biology’s Rare Barrel culture. It was then aged on Pinot Grig conditioned oak spiral, pineapple, mango, and Guava and dryhopped with Motueka.

Cool beer. Quite sour but still has some great fruit flavor. This culture produces a bit acetic acid, which I’m not crazy about, but overall it will be cool beer to pull out during shares

I’ve never brewed a helles before. Your inspiration will cause me to brew one as my next lager
As I've gotten older, the lower ABV easier drinking beers tend to be more and more appealing to me. I tend to just buy the 8%+ABVs anymore. And somehow, I still get fat!?! 🤔
