I crushed it some, but maybe I need to pound the bag until the berries are like mush.
Doesn’t necessarily need to be mush, but a good crush is good. I let mine thaw almost completely then smash the bags before opening and dumping in the fermenter.

So when do you know you’ve got a great IPA? It’s when you can smell it two feet away from the pour! Great job aroma hops!

I really have to say this is GREAT IPA, and I strongly suggest you get up, lace up the shoes and get on down to your favorite bottle shop before it all gets bought up!

Funny thing, the first time I remember this beer was part of Beermeister32’s biggest craft brew score of all time, all the way back around 2003-2004. The local supermarket chain had been going through a strike about the same time we were having to shutter a factory, letting people go. I really was appalled by the strike, especially since in our case, we were actually having to let people go. These people at least had their jobs, the dichotomy between the two events was striking, er, noteworthy.

Anyway, a few months later and the supermarket chain capitulated, ended the strike, gave them the big pay increase and in so doing also decided to close down the non-performing locations. This is where I stepped in. Lunchtime, doing my typical small item food shopping, and HOLY HECK! ALL THE BEER IS IN CLOSEOUT AND SELLING AT 25 CENTS ON THE DOLLAR!!!! I took the biggest shopping cart they had – and LOADED IT!!!! Full of craft beer, as much as it would hold, a couple hundred bottles. Big ones too, 16-22 ouncers included! CRAZY!

I got back to work and it was hard to think the rest of the afternoon. I couldn’t BELIEVE the Beermeister32 good fortune that day. 4:00 came quickly, and I rolled out and back to the store as quick as I could – ALL SOLD OUT! I should’ve guessed… DUH!

Yes, Bear Republic Racer 5 India Pale Ale was about 5 bottles of that big score, and the last time we met. Until again today, and I’m lov’n it! Cheers!

If you can get the opportunity to sniff a jasmine bush, do it! Actually, you don't have to seek one out, they come to you at dusk. I spent some time in California and the single thing that I miss the most about that state is sitting on the patio at dusk as the air cooled and the cement of the patio radiated heat and the jasmine bushes wreathed you in their amazing perfume. I say this as a guy that has made his way in the world with a fair bit of actual sweat. Subsequently, I really appreciate the scent of nothing (maybe with a faint whiff of bleach). But jasmine? Yes, please!
Head to the Old South. Nothing like a Yankee enjoying 70° temps in February. There was something about the evening when I realized besides the beautiful weather, there was jasmine blooming right next to me. Intoxicating. I've heard it described as the heavy smell of a dank lily. Burnt into my memory. I discovered a cold hardy jasmine that is surviving quite well

Edit: Jasmine Clematis

Sip of my first arancello (I thought I had come up with something new!🤣🤣). My wife eats about 5 oranges a week and it just dawned on me (duh) to zest them and make a digestif. Doing the sous vide method. I did 135°F for 3.5 hours (2 is good so this must be better🤔). I'll also give it a few days to meld at room temp but it seems good now. Hot (of course at 95% abv) but nice orange flavor. I'm thinking at this point I like it better than limocello. We'll see when it's done and sweetened.

Thanks! Here’s a sample from the batch I kegged Tuesday night. Looking back at the “baby pictures” from the last batch, it was cloudy and lighter in color in the first few days and got clearer and darker as time went on. We’ll see how this batch turns out when it “grows up.”

Thanks - honestly in 27 years of brewing this is one of the very best I’ve ever done if I do say so. I’ve been focused on lagers the last couple years.
I've been enjoying your pictures. You really nailed the color, it looks delicious. In fact, you've inspired me to dust of my Vienna recipe and make a hole in my schedule ~mid-Dec. I'm looking forward to it!
