If you ever get near the carlisle area stop at market cross pub.
I’m down by the borders where PA, MD, and DE are all together. I do go to Hershey sometimes out that direction. In Lititz there’s a place called the Bull’s Head that is a re-creation of a British pub that is probably the closest thing we’ll find on this side of the ocean.

Yessir! Love bulls head, wife and I are going there tomorrow actually.. it's definitely our favorite and it's about an hour drive for us.

I’ve been saying this for a few years now. I’m in PA. These days we don’t see much at all outside of Boddington’s in nitro cans and of course, Guinness. Yeah, Samuel Smith. Sometimes I can find Smithwick’s. We have one sort of local restaurant that does scotch eggs and stuff. They often have Smithwick’s on draft, There’s a British style pub in a town a couple hours from here. They had Bluebird Bitter on cask last time I was there.

But yeah, anything British has been slim pickings for awhile.
Brew some British Bitter yourself. I have dozens of recipes which I can share.

HB 8% Rum Barrel Red Rye Ale dry hopped with Sabro, whilst I keg up a 7% "Mango Madness" Citra Cryo/Luminosa Brut IPA

Would really benefit from having a second kegerator where I can serve a touch warmer that I normally would as it's a hair astringent off the tap.

Having sat for 5 minutes it really opens up, funky vanilla and coconut over spicy rye. Next time I'd probably push the ABV higher and higher FG as it's pretty dry. I'm wondering if I got some Brett carry over in the Fermzilla I use for bulk aging as it should not be quite this dry. But honestly it tastes great, almost a hint of Belgian yeast character.

I actually have 5 gallons of best bitter just about ready to keg now. I brew it pretty regularly. Yep - I like to brew stuff I can’t buy or have a hard time finding,

I might have to see if I can swing in there for lunch on my trip to New Holland next month.

Typically St.Boniface for pizza is worked in there, so maybe both...

Paul from UK brewing supply was the guy that opened Bulls head pub in Lititz, he is quite a guy, I got the luxury of speaking with him when I was working on getting my beer engine up and running. He definitely did a great job recreating the British pub for us here.

Edit, if you go to ukbrewing.com the pic at the top of the homepage is the bar at bulls head pub.

Originally I thought I’d spend a couple weeks hitting the British brews imported into the US. After a beer shopping trip recently, I was taken back by the limited offerings available here. Samuel Smith is represented well, many of the others not so much. That being the case, I’ve decided to expand this out to include Irish and Scottish brews as I can find them.

Today I’m drinking a really fantastic Harp Lager. I see this is a division or subsidiary of Guinness, so they definitely know beer! This is a clean and delicious Golden Lager, not something you might be expecting with all the Ales famous in the British Islands. Boy this beer’s good!

The can says it all – this was developed by their German brewmaster in 1960 in the Pilsner style with a fruity nose and clean finish – 4.5% ABV, it also references citrus hops, whatever they are. I remember a couple years ago I brewed a Citra Pilsner, and it was an entirely different animal. This is a fantastic and chugworthy example, you can put this whole can down in 4 pulls. Cheers!

Just to follow up, I’m at my store today. Here are the choices.

Impulse buy. I'm not an IPA kinda guy but I've seen this beer posted here, it was $3 for a Imperial pint of 9.5% beer, so what the heck! No noticable bitterness or malt, low carbonation, light body, citrusy. Tastes kinda like orange and tangerine juice, light beer, a couple of shots of vodka. Already affecting my ability to type!

Waiting out the traffic at Treehouse.

Bartender says it's been sitting in barrels for ten years. I want to crawl into those barrels and sleep.

Vanilla Bean Double Shot Barrel Blend is a rendition of of Double Shot brewed to showcase a blend of barrel-aged beer with our esteemed Double Shot Base. The addition of whole bean vanilla brings it to another level altogether! Pouring like chocolate syrup into the glass, it carries dense notes of chewy fudge, bourbon vanilla candy, chocolate chip cookies, and chocolatey Tree House coffee buoyed by a classic Tree House mouthfeel. It is a beautiful marriage of our roasting and brewing team's energy and enthusiasm for their respective endeavors--Enjoy!

Yellow Fern is a Double IPA pouring a brilliant yellow with a fluffy white head. Citra hops smack the palate with flavors of sweet juicing oranges and grapefruit peel followed by notes of creamy peach smoothies from select Amarillo lots. On top of these American classics, we blended some of our favorite New Zealand varieties: Pacifica and Nelson hops. Notes of crushed white grape and floral orange blossom honey delight the senses, inviting sip after sip.

So here I am right in the middle of my English, Scotch and Irish beer reviews, and my wife steps in… “Do you have a nice Valentine beer to review?” Aw shucks, wasn’t that box of chocolates enough already? Now I have to chase down a VALENTINE beer? Right in the middle of my British Isles project?

OK, so we’re taking a day out to satisfy the needs of all you “Lovers” out there, beer or otherwise. It’s really a head scratcher, what do I pick? A Flanders Red perhaps? Well I’ve had this one here before and it’s a sweetie alright. Dark cherry red color, sweet cherry and berry taste - we made ice cream floats with this one once. Delirium advertises this as a dessert beer, and I sure get it. As categories go, this one is somewhere between a light sour, a Flanders Red or a fruit beer. It sort of overlaps all three categories slightly.

Keep this away from the kids, they would drink it. 8% ABV, it’s a heavy-hitter, tucked nicely behind that sweet and fruitiness, so watch it.

Happy Valentine’s Day, back to business tomorrow!

Ope, @bailey mountain brewer drug me in for part of an evening before I got distracted again.

Currently up is my NOT-ZIMA that was informally judged as "too sweet and flavorful to be real ZIMA".

Zima? Wow..that is something that I haven't heard referenced in a really long time. No...thank you!!

I think...this damn lager is almostish/finally ready? Only my second lager, and I changed the hop bill on this one too moreso because I've just got to get rid of a wide variety of hops. 2 weeks in, it was really green, and hop burn city. 4 weeks in, had some what I'm guessing is acetaldehyde off-flavor with some pretty strong apple-y character to it. Today, I'm at 5 weeks and the hop burn is gone, the apple-y is almost...non existent but I can tell it's there.

It isn't a dumper, and really there are much worse off flavors to have to deal with. I know where I messed up. I had a brewday snafu, and the fermentation was interesting to say the least so between those two things, oddly enough my first attempt was MUCH better. It is nice to look at at least.

So Pomegranite martini for Vanentine’s Day. With Steak Au Poivre (one of my all time favorites), small lobster tail, and Maryland crab cake. Maryland is 10 min from here and we get the real thing with lump crab. Oh yeah, we had green beans too. I love to cook. I just hate doing dishes.

new rule: no more high quality photographs of food around dinner time. Especially when they contain crab cakes, steak, and some sort of surf.
The filet was the most expensive bit. $27 a pound, the 2 steaks were about $28. I got a package with 2 lobster tails and 2 crab cakes for $23. They’re both little. $60 for a dinner for 2 we could not have afforded to buy out. I don’t feel bad.

This is just beautiful!
Cheers!

Choking down FlashBrewing Citra Pale Ale. Tastes like a hard-core grapefruit bomb, almost like I'm drinking grapefruit juice. Fermented at 64f for 2 weeks, aged a week at 68, and kegged and carbed at 38. Fully attenuated at 1.009. I do NOT like grapefruit.i need a few kegs of stout to wash this out of my mouth...

Let it lager for 90 days….

I can’t lie, I grab one of those every once in a while. I don’t love them by anymeans but they don’t taste awful and they genie job done. It’s what I usually grab when my wife ask for me to grab the blue can white claws
