One of these days I'll summon the courage to brew a BoPils, like an Urquell clone. No covering for mistakes in those beers.

If you're ever in Europe, order a pour of Budvar Budweiser. A little slice of pure heaven. You can get it here (called Czechvar, for trademark reasons), but it loses something after the long voyage in green bottles.
I have that coming up for our clubs summer brew challenge. Either a German or Czech Pils. I’m drinking a couple now for “research”

“Research” for an upcoming brew

Story time. Couple weeks back did a 4 and then a 5 mile walk and strained my calf. It was feeling much better and really no signs of issues until I was walking...yes walking... out to the car at lunch. Something popped there and I about dropped to the ground. Signs all point to the Achilles tendon but Dr. appointment tomorrow. Anyway, beer...

Plantaris tendon rupture...you'll be fine in about 6 weeks. Don't ask me how I know.

good way. This is the Columbus from @Dgallo 's suggestion a month or two ago. I've learned that if Dom suggests something, it has to be good ;-). Now I have to teach my friends that hops and MJ are from the same distant plant class...

Went out for a little fat tire ride and ran into a beautiful healthy black bear in a very residential area.

Really decent dubbel. Went with the large. No frills. All good and a nitro stovetop stout

New! Monastic Time Machine: Boston Wort Processors Collaboration (Belgian Dubbel) 7.9% ABV

Late last year we were approached by the Boston Wort Processors Homebrew Club who are turning 40 this year, about doing a collaboration beer!! The members came up with this recipe which we scaled from 5 gallon to 100 gallon batch.

Deep Reddish brown ale with a persistent cream color head. Aromas of toffee, fresh baked bread, and fruit leather. Medium body with a touch of warmth. Smooth notes of torched sugar, brown bread, and warming spice. A unique fruity note in the background. This ale finishes smooth and dry.

Cheers to many more years!!

Just when I thought my Faux German beer project had met its conclusion, look what I found in the Bierhoard…. One more can of Bavarian Kittens. I must have bought two of them by mistake…. Joy!

What better opportunity to make a blender out of this with the old reliable Bud Zero serving as a mixer. Let’s see, we have 16 ounces @ 5.5% ABV, and 12 ounces at 0% ABV. That makes it 28 ounces at 3.1% ABV into my 28 ounce glass. Just fits!

OK, I’ll just come out and say it. I wasn’t too impressed with this one a few beers back, but with the Bud Zero and the fizz I’m getting from it, this is a more drinkable brew, not quite a Festbier as on the can, but a whole lot more “Festbier-ish!" A bit more translucent too. I say these brews have hope after all! Good chugging !!!

Haha I’m glad it worked out for you. When I opened my bag of that lot, I was so pumped that it was as dank as it was. I haven’t got that really dank Columbus in a a while

And a Mechanical Rabbit 🐰 not over bearing spice

Mechanical Rabbit (Brown Ale) 5.8%

Carrot Cake Brown Ale is a spiced brown ale brewed with local carrots, warm spices and lactose. Notes of molasses, cinnamon, nutmeg, and carrots. This medium body ale with a balanced finish invokes nostalgia of this delicious dessert.

Not a good sign when the Bud Zero is the better of the two. ;) At least it made for a decent session bier.

Nurse is just sending me to an MRI. There's a test for an Achilles rupture and it seems to pass (not ruptured) the test doing it myself. Anyway, I'm in healing mode so avoiding alcohol (or anything inflammatory) moving forward for the foreseeable future. 🍻 to my favorite community for now!

Man, I'm so sorry to hear that. I tore my calf muscle about 15 years ago while whoring in a rugby match that I had no business being in (famous last words: "I'll show these young punks.") It felt like a water balloon exploded inside my calf. I sure hope it was a muscle tear instead of a tendon. Neither is good, but the muscle tear wasn't all that bad.

Word of advice during your recovery: Don't be polite in crosswalks and try to break into a trot. I kept tearing and re-tearing my calf doing that during the recovery period. Unfortunately, you just have to take it easy until things stitch themselves back together. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm as stubborn as I am stupid it would've been a quick recovery, but I stretched it out to 6-8 months because I didn't take it seriously.

Good luck with the MRI. But whatever the outcome, we're going to have to put you on IR until you heal up. Get better soon!!

Out for a late lunch / early dinner at a local German-style biergarten. Surprised when we got there to find out they had a Weihenstephaner tap takeover, with 8 or so of their beers on tap. I had the 1516 Kellerbier, and loved it. I would have rather stayed longer to have more of the beers they were serving, but we had other stops to make.

Eight Weihenstephaner taps? They'd never get me out of there.

Good find.
