Next batter up – Fest & Last Oktoberfest Lager by Fieldwork Brewing in Berkeley, California!

I have to admit, I have a little pre-drink bias here – I’ve actually been to Fieldwork Brewing with Beer-Loving Family members about a year ago. Fieldwork puts out all sorts of tasty brews, and I’m glad to see an Oktoberfest in their lineup. Their beer flights of a bunch of samplers are to die for!

Fest and Last is a delicious 5.8% Märzen. Did I mention I love Fieldwork? I do. A couple comments on this brew though, I do drink LOT of different Lagers, so I have some benchmarks to compare to. I’d say the malty flavor is spot-on, as is the “orangey” color. I’d like to see several improvements – the first on head retention, which basically is nil - and the lacing, again not so much. Also, another issue I see with a lot of predominantly Ale-houses is the tendency to release their top-end Lagers too cloudy. These should be fined and polished as good as the bumpers on your ’68 Vette! In a beer way of course, that means CRYSTAL clear! Prost!

Newcastle Nut Brown ale, gifted from my sales-lady...

Haven't had one in at least 18 years, and this bottle (Brewed in either Petaluma CA or Chicago IL) tastes nothing like I remember. No bitterness, no hops, just mildly sweet bilge water.

Dumped
I will look and see if I can get the English version here. I always preferred the Samuel Smith version but Newcastle was a great lawnmower beer.

Ha! I brewed a helles bock a couple of years back I named "From Fest til März". Glad to know I wasn't the only one who thought it punny.

HB Nectaron single hop hazy IPA. This has been great, proper stone fruit bomb with a touch of floral to round things out. The merest touch darker than I'd like in terms of colour being my one and only real complaint.

We’re taking the parallel tracks today. I'm still drinking those Faux German brews, but today I thought I’d re-emphasize the Beermeister32 beer aficionado rule: If you find something great, Buy it! Buy it all! Go down to the next bottle house and clean them out too! I put my money where my mouth is!

Alesmith Anvil Pilsner debuted here last week. This is such a fantastic Pilsner, I’m clustering it in with my Faux German brewing project – this is by definition a SUPERB Bavarian Pilsner. Serious folks, get up off the couch, pull your pants on, lace up “them shoes” and head on down to the store TODAY. Buy it ALL!!!!! Buy it NOW!!!!!

Anvil has great head and great lacing, 4.9% ABV - this is the one to go get… Just don’t get Hammered! Prost!
