I recently purchased a couple of pin lock 3 gallon kegs from an online retailer. They are great, but when I bought a socket to remove the posts, it didn't fit. It was the standard 13/16" or 21mm. They are just a little different than other pin lock posts that I've seen online. I guess they are not standard. Has anyone run into this problem?

I can just use a wrench, but just barely. It's a terribly awkward angle.

This isn't a standard pinlock post that he's got. A pin lock socket isn't going to work, which is what he just said in the post...

If you've got some calipers maybe measure the size socket you'll need and then dremel it out, but other than that I think you're stuck just using a wrench. This is certainly a non-standard post you've got.

I strongly believe it IS a standard pinlock post.

The pins look to be below the hex portion of the post rather than in the hex portion like a standard post. you are going to need a socket with deeper slots so the socket can slip down on the pins far enough and engage the hex of the post. Those posts are definitely different than most out there , but still should be servicable if you get or make a socket with deep enough slots.

Distance from pins to hex is more than double any of my pin locks. Distance also indicates greater depth if cut on slots of any wrench/socket I've seen.

Was this the 3 for deal that was recently going on?
I think kegs can have different connections. I know when I bought a small keg from a guy here, I wanted to convert it to ball lock and the standard ball lock connectors would not work. I had to order the other thread size. So my point is, could that be the case here?

I think the socket with deeper slots will work or a carefully placed wrench.

The socket doesn't even fit over the round portion that includes the pins. In other words, the slots don't even make it as far as the pins. I'll attach a photo. ImageUploadedByHome Brew1398786347.972809.jpgImageUploadedByHome Brew1398786368.536626.jpg

I used an adjustable wrench to measure the hex section at the bottom of the post. It was 22mm. The socket I bought was 21mm. It's that close. Of course it's also way too short. I'm sending it back.

I can't replace the posts now as my two kegs are full of pilsner and blueberry wheat. Looking forward to that at least.

Pick yourself up one of these, and use your ratchet and an extension, It'll keep your knuckles away from any knuckle opening parts that might be hanging out in that area.........

Don't get the "fitting" type of "crowsfoot", unless you can try one out first.........It's design may not let it fit the gap, betwixt the "pins" and the "flats".
