I’m slowly getting to kinda know what I’m talking about... (and honestly Imho, a day 2 level newbie)

My wife’s friend dropped her daughter off to babysit my kid today. Once she got back to pick her daughter up, just after I got home from work, I had her try some blueberry cider and some stout while waiting for my wife to get home. She started asking questions and I surprised myself by not only giving a short answer but fairly in depth explanations.

It's great when you talk to beer nerds about not just beer facts but what goes into them, they go from "excited" to "glazed over" rather quickly when you explain how hop schedules effect IBUs, grain bills, when adjuncts work and are to style etc.

I know that reaction, but from a different perspective.
People are generally fascinated by gadgets, but many of them understand "jack" about the technical aspect of "how and why" it works - or doesn't work. As a former government IT/comms contractor it was extremely difficult explaining things to people who didn't have even a basic engineering background.
Mission agendas and politics sometimes wouldn't meld with the real-world reality of logistical support, and there would be military officers who'd get a pi$$y "shoot the messenger" attitude when receiving an honest answer they didn't like. In some instances, that attitude led me to resign and seek employment elsewhere.

I've never understood that way of thinking. If you don't get it, either learn it or work with the expert on finding a way for it to be understandable in laymen's terms to yourself and anyone who comes after you. It really shouldn't be that hard to get over yourself
