Water treatment help!!

Hi all I'm just working out my water treatment, to do my calculations I need to work out the alkalinity of the water which I've got, but I'm confused as some people are using the alkalinity which in my case is 141 ppm and others using the calcium carbonate reading which in my case is 271 mg/l ppm. What one do I use?
