I am beginning to get my head round how different beer styles require different water, but think simple definition and explanation of the following terms, and how they relate to one another would be very helpful.

hardness as calcium carbonate
bicarbonate
alkalinity
acidity
pH
chlorine
chloride
chloramine

You can read Palmer but ignore anything he says about SRM and RA being related, sulfate/chloride ratios and phosphoric acid precipitating calcium. If you read Noonan or Fix you can believe everything there because it is all correct.

Alternately Martin's Bru'n Water has all you need to know and AJ Delange's website has a lot of stuff you don't need or want to know.

There is a Tab on the spreadsheet that says Water Knowledge. I'm assuming you have the program opened in either Excel or Open Office?
