Ok so I have my first batch fermenting and of course I am worried it is going to taste bad. I used purified water from my fridge to top off my 2.5 gallon partial boil wort. I used a sanitized pitcher to transfer the water but didn't boil it. Should I always boil the water first?

I thought the same for my first brew but couldn't get the water cooled down in time so I just used tap water.
As far as I know boiling only eliminates some of the chemicals that can cause off flavors I'm the final product. If you are doing an extract beer than you should be fine, so long as the water tastes fine.

When I brewed extract, I never boiled the top off water and my beers were all fine. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It'll be fine. I always use tap water to top-off my extract brews. However, I'm on a well. I don't know if city water (with chlorine) would have an effect.

I use sealed gallon jugs assuming they got to be sanitary. I have never boiled top off water. I throw 2 in the freezer while brewing. When my wort hits 100* I open em up and pour into fermenter. Hits pitching temps perfectly.
