Hi,
I need some info/help/advice.i am still pretty new to brewing, I am on my second brew which is a pilsner. After the brew has been fermenting for a bit over a week, I went to check the gravity of the beer. But what I didn't think about realize is that when I open the tap it would suck water from the airlock. Now this has happened 2 or 3 time now. What are the chances that I have made this beer undrinkable? It's pretty near the end of the fermentation. And it was tap water in the airlock.
What should I look out for if any nastys got into my beer?

Thanks

Sheblom your beer will turn out just fine. A few tablespoons of water even pulled in through an airlock will not harm your beer.

Congrats on your second brew! Now brew some more!

And also just noticed, this is your first post. Welcome to HomeBrewTalk! Or as one guy here has referred to it - Home Brew Town.

This is a great place to learn, talk about almost everything in life and have a good time.

There is always something to learn no matter how long a person has been brewing.

Have a blast with this hobby!

Cheers!

Dan

Churs Dan! That's great to hear! And no worrys about the next one! I am already planning it! Just waiting for it to warm up a bit down here and then I will be making an ale of some sort.

Ceres for the welcome! Hope for more brews to come!

I use cheap vodka in my airlocks so any fruit flies or other nasties that get in the airlock die of alcohol poisoning straight away. Just a little more peace of mind to me...:tank:

Star San solution or vodka is the way to go. I'm sure you've picked up on it now, but remove your airlock prior to taking off the lid.

Or when using the spigot for hydrometer samples, remove the s type airlock. Or on the 3-piece models, remove the cap & center piece 1st. That'll prevent suck back.
