Yesterday I moved my batch of NB Phat Tyre from the primary to the secondary. I decided to try washing and harvesting my yeast from this batch to use for a high gravity batch next. I used the Safale US-05 dry ale yeast in my batch of Phat Tyre. I noticed that the yeast cake had a lot of the residual hops in it at the bottom of the fermenting bucket. I washed it twice with cooled boiled water but couldn't get all of the hop particles out. I'm just wondering if these could affect the flavor/bitterness of the next batch?

It will be another month or so before I brew the next batch so the particles may settle out prior to making my starter. I attached a photo I took this morning of the jar of yeast. You can still see some of the particles. Should I try rewashing after a week?

I don't think it will affect the flavor of the beer. It definitely won't affect the bitterness due to the fact that any extracted bittering compounds would have washed out, and extracting more bitteing compounds would require a lot of heat.

I think you are fine. Try washing again before making a starter or pitching.

I washed it again this afternoon and now it is fine. Looks like I just needed one more wash. :tank:
