My mom really enjoyed Viniq, and now I am making my own wine (a mead though), and what to try to replicate the look.

From what I have learned the effect is achieved through Wilton's Pearl Dust or another Luster Dust.

Thing is I've got a few questions

1. Does anyone here have experience adding this to your wine?

2. It comes in many colors, but how does the color of the dust interact with the color of your wine? I really want to make mine BLUE but...I dunno if it would come out right (I mean blue+yellow =green right?), so I am leaning towards silver or gold to be on the safe side.

3. How much do I need to color say, a 750ml bottle? They sell it -as you can see in the video on amazon, and product pictures in some small arsed bottles. The Viniq sort of looks steeped in the stuff.

:( this could be expensive. Some of them are on sale for $4-5 a piece, but the normal price is $10.

Though as I've seen even a little adds some fun

4. And when adding it during bottling, should I fill the bottle halfway and then dump the bottle(s) in , then fill up the rest with wine, before inverting it a few times?

This is cool. I have never seen it before. The effect is memorizing.

A Google search came up with a recipe for about 1/4 tsp per 1.5 cups of liquid (vodka and syrup). The other says a dash per drink. So you probably don't need a lot for 750ml of wine. Check out what each link says about color.

When you finish post a video of how it turns out. I found the perl/luster dust on sale at amazon for a few bucks for 2 grams...which seems like plenty for a few bottles.

I might have to try this for the wife when summer comes along...
Now I think about it, I might just drop this in my next glass of homebrew.
